The University of Texas at Austin (UT) opened in 1883 with eight professors, four assistants, a proctor, and 221 male and female students. Born to George Rankin Tait (1893-1946) and Lucille Lorine Barber (1892-1989) in Beeville, Texas, George Lawrence Tait (b. 1928) attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1947 through 1951.
